National Minimum Wage Rate INCREASES

From 1st October 2016, the National Minimum Wage rates are increasing as follows:

  • Adult Rate: workers aged under 25 but at least 21 rises to £6.95 p.h. (25p increase);
  • Development Rate: workers aged at least 18 but under 21 rises to £5.55 p.h. (25p increase);
  • Young Workers rate: workers aged under 18 who are no longer of compulsory school age rises to £4.00 p.h. (13p increase); and
  • Apprentice rate:  increases to £3.40 p.h. (10p increase)

The National Living Wage (the national minimum wage rate for workers aged 25 or above), remains the same - £7.20 p.h.

If you have employees affected by the rates increase you should notify them in writing and put a copy of the letter on their personnel file.

Comment: Please note that this is the last time you can expect minimum wage hikes in October. From April 2017, future changes to the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage will take place at the same time in April each year.
