New Acas Guidance on Gender Pay Gap Reporting

 | Comments ()

Expected to come into force in April 2017, the gender pay reporting legislation requires employers with 250 or more employees to publish statutory calculations every year showing how large the pay gap is between their male and female employees.

Acas have now published a number of new guides and factsheets, which you can download HERE

The following are some basics but if you employ less than 250 staff then you don’t have this reporting burden to worry about (although every employer should ensure they is no gender pay gap of course!).

Eligible employers will need to publish statutory calculations every 12 months showing the pay gap differences between male and female employees.

Four 4 annual figures must be reported:

  1. gender pay gap – mean and median averages
  2. gender bonus gap – mean and median averages
  3. proportion of men and women receiving bonuses
  4. proportion of men and women in each group from lowest to highest pay.

Employers must then publish the results on their own site and on the government’s website.

Other key points to note include:

  • employers must follow the regulations for any year if they have 250 or more employees on 5 April
  • full time workers are included as well as some self-employed (agency workers are counted by the providing agency)
  • regulations apply to employers in the private and voluntary sectors
  • reporting must be published online within 12 months
  • employers can provide narrative to explain the challenges, successes and long-term plans of their calculations.
