Compensation Limits and Stautory Pay rates to increase in April

 | Comments ()

BIS has laid The Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order 2017, containing the annual increases in compensation payments, before Parliament. It applies to dismissals (or detriments, etc) occurring on or after 6th April 2017.

The main changes are:

  • a week's pay - £489 (currently £479) — increasing the unfair dismissal basic award to £14,670 (currently £14,370) — same as maximum statutory redundancy payment
  • maximum compensatory award - £80,541 (currently £78,962) OR 52 weeks pay, whichever is lower
  • statutory Guarantee pay - £27 per day (currently £26) — maximum will be £135 for the 5 days max. entitlement

Other proposed statutory rate changes:
The weekly rate for SMP, SPP, SAP and ShPP is indicated to go up to £140.98, this change has not been formally confirmed as yet, and the ‘higher rate’ of SMP remains unchanged.

Comment: Of course, nearer April our retained clients will receive an updated Employment Fact Card containing all the latest statutory rates as a useful aid memoir
