Personality Profiling

Build The Right Team

The Personnel Dept is a licensed provider of the Thomas International highly recognised and respected Personality Profile Analysis (PPA) / psychometric tool.

Introduction

Research has shown that behavioural characteristics can be grouped together into four major divisions called personality styles.

  • Dominance: someone who is direct, decisive, a problem-solver, a risk taker and a self-starter;
  • Influence: someone who is enthusiastic, trusting, optimistic, persuasive, talkative, impulsive and emotional;
  • Steadiness: someone who is a good listener, team player, possessive, steady, predictable, understanding and friendly;
  • Compliance: someone who is accurate, analytical, conscientious, careful, precise, meticulous and systematic.

Uses for PPA Reports

Insights gained from personality profiles such as PPA lead to a greater understanding of why people behave the way they do and can be used to hone and modify managers’ communication skills and management styles.

  • Recruitment & Selection – objective selection tool to use alongside application forms and other selection methods  = less fear and cost of getting it wrong or falling foul of discrimination claims;
  • Training & Development – identifying limitations gives you a focus on definite training needs;
  • Appraisals – identifying where the person and job are not synchronised can help address any limitations;
  • Team Bonding & Building – teams work better when everyone ‘fits’ to make an efficient working unit;
  • Releasing People Potential – getting the best out of your staff means they’re more motivated = more productivity;
  • Diagnosing & Resolving People Problems/ Employment Relations Issues – PPA allows you to analysis more closely why, where, how problems might be occurring. Resolving them will make a difference to your bottom line;
  • Retention – improved staff retention = less recruitment costs each year.

Many proactive employers are now recognising the benefits of using these PPA tools on a regular basis for different reasons – the main one being the positive impact on their bottom line. These reports provide an eye opening and accurate analysis of your people – this insight will ensure you understand why someone may be behaving the way they are, which then enables you to manage them in the most suitable way.

Benefits of this tool

  • Accurate – PPA has received a Certificate of Registration from the British Psychological Society (BPS) to confirm it meets all psychometric requirements for use as a psychological tool;
  • Fast – takes approximately 7-8 minutes to complete – online or in paper format;
  • Eliminates the need for guesswork in your decision making;
  • Enables more effective people management;
  • Cost effective – see below.

List of Available Reports

Once a PPA questionnaire has been completed there are a range of additional reports, depending on the uses, that are available. Each report will enable you to gain a thorough insight and understanding into the way your people work. Highlighted are the most common reports wanted by business owners – on themselves, their Senior Management team or other employees.

  • Graphs and Scores – included with a basic PPA report
  • Interviewers Guide – included with a basic PPA report
  • Candidate Feedback – included with a basic PPA report
  • How to Manage
  • Strengths and Limitations
  • Executive Summary
  • Management/ Sales Interview Questionnaires
  • Management Audit
  • Admin/ Technical Audit
  • Sales Audit
  • Training Needs Analysis
  • Personal Review
  • Compatibility

Examples of any of the above reports can be made available, upon request.

Job Profiling

If you wish to use the PPA tool for recruitment purposes there is also the facility to create a Job Profile before starting the recruitment process. This report identifies the behavioural requirements of the job and can be completed by you (or me with you) via an interactive programme to create the perfect job role by selecting from a list of words that suit the job, taking no more than 5 mins. This report would be FREE.

Even better, if potential candidates then complete a PPA, a further report can be created highlighting the behavioural ‘goodness of fit’ on a scale of 1-5, so you can see out of all the candidates who would most closely match the requirements of the job. This report would be chargeable.

TESTIMONIALS:

The Director for a large Florist based in Lincolnshire said:

“We use PPA reports now for all our new appointments. They give us a beneficial insight into the candidates and they have proved well worth the investment. The reports are always provided quickly which means our recruitment process isn’t held up at all and I prefer these reports and the process since they are quick & easy for the candidates to do and are no hassle – unlike other personality or psychometric tests out there. We will continue TPD for these reports.”

The Director of a Marketing Company in Branston, Lincoln said:

“We have used the personality profiling reports on a number of occasions in the past months, and found that they really hit the nail on the head. From one we have been able to identify an employee to take on more management roles, and learnt many ways of dealing with all employees in ways better suited to their personality.  We got the results very fast after the testing was done, and it is a very worthwhile spend.”
